Il n&#8217;a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 abattu, mais il est revenu. Il a eu fait une h\u00e9morragie. Et donc, il est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 sur l&#8217;a\u00e9rodrome de Maubeuge, ici.<\/strong><\/p>\n[00:34]\n<strong>D&#8217;autres sont venus de tr\u00e8s loin, comme Geoff, un Canadien de Vancouver, qui tenait \u00e0 saluer la m\u00e9moire de William Murray, un cousin de son p\u00e8re, pilote de bombardier.<\/strong><\/p>\n[00:43] &#8211; Geoff<br \/>\n<strong>Je suis tellement reconnaissant envers les personnes qui ont organis\u00e9 \u00e7a. Vous savez, nous sommes all\u00e9s voir sa tombe \u00e0 Maubeuge. C&#8217;est toujours bien entretenu. Il y a encore des fleurs l\u00e0-bas pour lui. Comme dit ma femme, il n&#8217;est pas seul.<\/strong><\/p>\n[01:04]\n<strong>Derri\u00e8re ce m\u00e9morial initi\u00e9 par des passionn\u00e9s d&#8217;histoire, il y a eu un gros travail de recherche des familles de ces aviateurs, parfois \u00e0 l&#8217;autre bout du monde, jusqu&#8217;en Australie ou en Nouvelle-Z\u00e9lande.<\/strong><\/p>\n[01:15] &#8211; Bernard<br \/>\n<strong>Pour retrouver une famille, quelquefois, je passe un mois, deux mois, jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 six mois. Donc, 41 familles retrouv\u00e9es. Je pense qu&#8217;aujourd&#8217;hui, avec 12 familles qui sont venues, c&#8217;est une belle r\u00e9ussite.<\/strong><\/p>\n[01:26]\n<strong>Beaucoup de ces aviateurs provenaient d&#8217;\u00e9quipages de bombardiers qui partaient ou revenaient d&#8217;op\u00e9rations au-dessus de l&#8217;Allemagne nazie.<\/strong><\/p>\n[01:33] &#8211; Daniel<br \/>\n<strong>D&#8217;abord, ils \u00e9taient quelquefois endommag\u00e9s par la flaque allemande sur l&#8217;Allemagne. Et donc, ils volaient un petit peu en dehors de la formation. C&#8217;\u00e9tait tr\u00e8s facile de les abattre.<\/strong><\/p>\n[01:46] &#8211; Gregor<br \/>\n<strong>Il y a l&#8217;aspect comm\u00e9moratif et la joie d&#8217;\u00eatre l\u00e0 ensemble. Mais il y a aussi une profonde tristesse familiale dans laquelle on a grandi.<\/strong><\/p>\n[01:55]\n<strong>Toutes ces familles d&#8217;aviateurs, en deuill\u00e9es \u00e0 travers le monde, auront maintenant un lieu pour se recueillir. Ici, \u00e0 Bussi\u00e8re-sur-Sambre.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"English\"><\/span>English<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A memorial commemorating 116 Allied airmen<\/p>\n<p>April 2024<\/p>\n[00:00]\nAn aerial display to pay tribute to 116 Allied airmen who fell in the Avenois region of France during the Second World War. More than 80 years later, their names are now engraved on a memorial, inaugurated in Bussi\u00e8re-sur-Sambre, near Maubeuge, in the presence of several families, including that of No\u00ebl Carvela, a Breton killed during the German invasion in 1940.<\/p>\n[00:22] &#8211; Mathieu<br \/>\nHe was hit over Belgium. He wasn&#8217;t shot down, but he came back. He suffered a hemorrhage. And so, he died at the Maubeuge airfield, here.<\/p>\n[00:34]\nOthers came from far away, like Geoff, a Canadian from Vancouver, who wanted to pay tribute to the memory of William Murray, a cousin of his father, a bomber pilot.<\/p>\n[00:43] &#8211; Geoff<br \/>\nI&#8217;m so grateful to the people who organized this. You know, we went to see his grave in Maubeuge. It&#8217;s still well-kept. There are still flowers there for him. As my wife says, he&#8217;s not alone.<\/p>\n[01:04]\nBehind this memorial, initiated by history buffs, there was a huge amount of work searching for the families of these airmen, sometimes from the other side of the world, as far away as Australia or New Zealand.<\/p>\n[01:15] &#8211; Bernard<br \/>\nTo find a family, sometimes I spend a month, two months, even six months. So, 41 families have been found. I think today, with 12 families coming, it&#8217;s a great success.<\/p>\n[01:26]\nMany of these airmen came from bomber crews departing for or returning from operations over Nazi Germany.<\/p>\n[01:33] &#8211; Daniel<br \/>\nFirst, they were sometimes damaged by the German air force over Germany. And so, they flew a little outside of formation. It was very easy to shoot them down.<\/p>\n[01:46] &#8211; Gregor<br \/>\nThere&#8217;s the commemorative aspect and the joy of being there together. But there&#8217;s also a deep family sadness that we grew up with.<\/p>\n[01:55]\nAll these families of airmen, grieving throughout the world, will now have a place to gather.
